HOSTS

HOST FAMILIES
Most, if not all exchange students get the opportunities to apply to be part of the host family project. A new initiative set up by Karlstad University, that aims to intergrate foreign cultures with local Swedish families.
Each family and their students can decide for themselves how many times they will meet and what they want to do during the semester.
Speaking from experience, the host family project was an invaluable experience for those of us in KEG who took it. Like anything with Swedish life, the more you put into it, the more you get out of it. Simón and Adam in particular shared a strong bond with their host family, something they'll never forget.
Take advantage of the initiative if you get the chance, it's absolutely worth it. But bear in mind that there are limited places, so first come first served!
HOST GROUPS
In the beginning of each semester, a group of volunteer students, both Swedish and international, join together to become host group leaders for the new arriving students. Their roles primarily include showing the new students around, collecting them on their first days, and generally helping them fit in. Although most of the group dissipate after a few weeks, some continue to operate, organising dinner events, parties and more.
