Searching Courses 

 

  • To find English courses click the tab 'Education', then 'Programmes' and underneath the 'Programmes' tab is 'Courses in English'.

  • The courses are then divided into different programmes depending on the students studies.

  • Each course page will provide the syllabus, Mode of Study, Term, Education Level, Prerequisites, Type of Programme and Language of Instruction.

Grading System 
  • Grades are also distributed on ItsLearning.

  • Most of the time there is feedback from the Professor.

  • The Swedish grading system used in universites is more straight forward then most other countries.

  • Unless stated otherwise the students will receive one of the following:

VG = Pass with distinction

G = Pass

U = Fail

 

 

ItsLearning

  • Students will need to then perform final registration of each class on their ItsLearning account.

  • Each student needs to register for an ItsLearning account at the Welcome Center.

  • Students will also receive a T-number from the Welcome Center that is needed for certain official procedures.

  • Students will be provided with a Username and Password.

  • This allows access to the University account where all assignments and exams are submitted, emails are retrieved and notifications from classmates and Professors will be distributed.

University Cards

 

  • Library Card:

Library card is required for borrowing books.

It is free of charge.

Students can receive a library card on request at library loans desk on the ground floor (Must bring your T-number).

 

  • Key Card:

The key card allows entrance to the University during the evenings and weekends. This key card is especially useful if a student is enrolled in the KAUIF program, as one needs a keycard to access the KAUIF building at all times.

Students can apply for a card by filling out a form at the Student Centre Reception. It costs 30 SEK.

It can be picked up a week after the application is received.

 

  • Print card:

Students can use a print card to print and copy documents.

Bought at the University printing office and the reception. It costs 20 SEK.

 Additional information

  • Ensure to enrol in classes that will transfer to the home university in order to make it applicable to your final University Degree.

Example:

100% workload means full-time school (5 classes per semester in North America)

30 ECTS = 2.5 Credits (5 classes per semester in North America).

 

  • Since January 2011 Karlstad University does not issue ECTS grades. However it is possible for international students to print transcripts of records including the ECTS Grading Table (EGT), which is a table presenting the distribution of the national/local grades (www.kau.se).

 

  • The grading system differs, therefore get your classes approved before leaving your home country. Each student applies to each course and the attendance of the first class is mandatory, unless stated otherwise.

Try to balance your studies with your social life. It can be dificult at times, the prospect of adventure and discovery with new friends can outweigh classwork.
